My mother is looking for a decent camera to install on one side of their house. I would prefer something that they could plug into the TV as an accessory versus firing up the laptop every time they wanted to check the camera, but they don’t have a preference.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks.

Do you have a spare monitor lying around? That usually works pretty well.

They've got one that rarely gets used. I just don't want them to have to fire up a computer everytime they want to check that side of the house.

Basically the side of the house that the garage and their bathroom in on has no windows. The shop is also on that side of the house. So short of seeing someone drive up their 200ft driveway or opening the garage door to look out they don't know what is going on on that side of the house.

They'd like to be able to keep tabs without too much trouble.

As long as the monitor is on all the time there won't be anything to do except look at the screen to see what's going on outside.

I did just that with those cheap X-10 wireless camera's. Had 3 mounted on the front/back of the house so Lyn could switch inputs on the TV and see who was at the front door. They hooked up with RCA cables, so it was like switching to a VCR or DVD.

Any info on where to get the X-10's?

            Thanks.

The one I had was probably close to this, but it was about 6 years ago (scroll down on the page)
Wireless Camera Systems with VCR Motion Recording

The little box with the antenna is what I hooked to the TV's input with RCA cables.

              Edit:
This will do exactly what you need.
