I have a 15000gal pool that has a 60sq/ft de filter. The housing for the filter blew apart and I need a new one. I think a 60sq/ft filter is overkill so I was thinking about getting a used setup off of cl but I only see good deals on 48 sq/ft filters. Anyone know if a 48 will work fine?

been doing pools for 15 years
what hp is your pump???
1hp-24,36sq-ft
1.5hp-36,48,60sq-ft
2hp-60,72sq-ft
These are just rough guidelines to follow on filter size in reference to the pump size...on a 15k gallon pool you probably have a 1.5hp so a 48sq-ft would be just fine

I'll have to check but I think it's a 2hp and a 1.5 booster pump. I think they went overkill on all of the pump and filters. I dont mind buying another 60sq/ft filter but theres a ton of used 48's on cl and ebay but very few 60's. I really only need to bottom of the shell but they dont make the fns60 anymore. It's a fns60 plus now and I'd have to buy the whole setup from what Iv been told. I had a fried on mine patch the old one back together and it held for about 5 weeks then blew out the edge again.

Zeo 3-5 microns
DE 1 micron
Not too far apart, and would give you good pefromance with less maintinance than a DE. Untill you think about a red blood cell is 2-3 microns wide wouldnt be filtered out by the Zeo. You could use a coagulant to help make the small stuff stick together to filter out easier..."If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford
