They wont get much cheaper, but as technology develops you will get more output for your money. High output, commercial products have dropped 50% in the past 2-3 years if that means anything. They will never be as cheap as gas bulbs. Bite the bullet and start saving energy today.

I switched my entire house to CFL and I saw a dramatic drop in my electric bill. The intitial hit was about $250.00, but my electric bill went down about $100.00-$150.00 per month.
I had seven 120 watt spot bulbs in my kitchen, thats 840 watts when the lights were on, I replaced with CFL and that room only burns about 119 watts for all seven now. For me it was worth the switch since I have a huge home with some rooms having multiple bulbs, ceiling fans, bathrooms, etc.
I'm sure LED is more efficent but the price is still up there right now.Originally posted by SilverbackLook all you want, she can't find anyone else who treats her as bad as I do, and I keep her self esteem so low, she wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else.

I removed 95% of the standard bulbs when I moved into the house I'm in back in 2010 and replaced them all with CFL bulbs. The electric bill dropped dramatically. Over the last year I have swapped out a few of the CFL bulbs with the LED's they sell at Costco. Haven't looked at the bill to see if there is much difference but they definitely put off less heat than CFL's. Even the small candelabra CFL bulbs that fit most new ceiling fans are 13 watts each. The LED's they sell at Costco are 3 watts each. Our fans use 3 bulbs. 13x3 CFL= about 40 watts. 3x3 LED= 9 watts. If you have several fans or other fixtures like hallway lights, chandelier's, etc. and change them all over time to the LED's..you are dramatically lowering your energy usage and it WILL show up on the bill.
I have noticed one slight side effect of the LED's in 3 way circuits is that they glow VERY dimly at night when turned off (has something to do with their extreme efficiency).
