  • Cutting Trees

When is the appropriate time to cut a tree of some big hanging branches? Spring, fall, anytime?

Don't know what kind of tree it is. It's made of wood, green leaves, and doesn't make a nut or anything.

If its bugging you and healthy cut branches as you see fit. I trim mine all the time when I see something I don't like.

It's best not to trim in late fall or winter, as trimming stimulates new growth.

any oaks are best to trim in the winter or when bugs arent flying ( like temps below 50 degrees), due to oak wilt, if you must trim when warmer make sure to coat the cut with a tree tar to help prevent any infestation of the spore that cause the wilt.
anything else trim whenever you want

I've done my own tree trimming and removal. Learned a lot of things keeping my place in maintenance, with several dozen oak trees.

Recently cut down 4 big oaks(2.5ft diameters) that were DOA when I bought my house.
I was quoted $175 per tree. Balked and did it myself, though not without some small level of danger.

I cut down a big oak last weekend. I rented a 35ft z boom lift and borrowed a chain saw. Lift cost me $175. I think next time Ill just pay someone $200-300 and save myself the hassle.
