Not a lawn expert, really coming in here to see what others say but:

From what I have read a 3-1-2 fertilizer is kind of the general/baseline suggestion, I want to say I saw one of the lawn guys on here suggest it a few months ago. It seems like where you run into trouble with a specific grass is the weed killing products.

I bought a Vigoro brand with the same 15-5-10. It seems to be working alright on my lawn, but honestly right now I have more weeds than anything else. I'm giving it 1 summer and winter to see some improvement or I am probably going to till it up or seed it.

Should be fine. I used Lesco prior to switching to Sperry's.

Thanks yall. I've always used Scotts, but had lackluster results last year and wanted to try something different.

          I'll post back w/results.

Boy I sure fucked up my St.Augustine this year. I thought I was gonna be smart and put out some fertilizer in mid to late February and then I hit it with some image one two days later. I was trying to get a jump on the weeds that were already in full effect, since they were bad last year and this winter was another mild one as well.

I pretty much killed about 80% of the yard. So DO NOT put out scotts bonus S and image 1 the same week, probably not even within 1 month to be safe.

Both are great for st. auggy and weed control, but don't use them close together.

At this point, I'm just trying to nurture the surviving auggy and go from there. Sucks !

I'm interested to see how yours turn out.

I used scotts bonus s and will see how it works this year. I put out a pallet of st augustine sod and its taken well.

I don't know if I've watered the yard enough to bring some back or if it creeping in from the neighbors, but that shit spreads like wildfire.

While on this subject: when I was a kid, my parents house had st augustine in the front and back yards, and it was really low maintinance, grew in the sun and the shady areas, etc. It seems to get a bad wrap though, can anyone tell me why?

I've always heard its high maintenance and loves a lot of water. I'm just starting on mine and haven't noticed anything other than it doesn't seem to difficult and grows anywhere.

Yeah that is way to much for a lawn in one week, Your supposed to wait 4 to 6 weeks between each spread. Here is my suggestion

Ortho Weed Be gone through the water hose, Depending on size of yard. Some yards only need one bottle while others need 2 bottles for front & back. I put it down right at March when there is no rain expected & then come May I do Weed n Feed & I cut all my yards at 3 to 4 inchs to give that thick plush green look.

But props to you for at least admiting you to fucked up your yard. St Augustine is expensive. Do you have trees in your yard or full sun?

I used Scotts bonus S this year. So far not too shabby. I've been nursing this yard back to good health. The previous owner pretty much let it go..

any of scott's product are good, if you cant make it work, may not be putting on correct amount ,to much or to little can have the same effects, it works both ways.
scotts bonus S is a weed and feed product, you cant add additional weed killer (image, or anything else) without doing serious damage.

just always remember to read and follow label directions

I laid some st. Augustine sod squares last Monday. Broke the ground up, levelled with top soil, spread scotts starter fertilizer, then laid the squares down. Anything else I should do? How often should I be watering

I watered my sod and plugs thoroughly everyday for a week to make sure they established. Now I water well twice a week and they're spreading good.
