  • Plumbing Question – Pulsating and reduced pressure in bathroom

Bought a house about 8 months ago. We have noticed that the pressure to the sink faucets in our master bathroom has seemed to decline since then. I have also noticed we are getting some pulsating in the master bath shower head. Pulsating has been most recently when the toilet was flushed while the shower was running, but I think I have heard/felt it at other times as well. Anybody know what might cause this.

Not on a well (we live in South Arlington). House was built in 84, I think it was a rent house before we bought it. Only other plumbing related issue that I have noticed was frequent clogging of the toilets when we first moved in, that seems to be gone now.

Pretty certain this has nothing to do with the shower head but I am hoping to replace that pretty soon. If anybody has any thoughts on how I can look into and fix this myself let me know.

I'd replace the head and the faucet. Calcium build up will stop the water flow. As far as flushing the toilet while the shower is running, well that's just how it all works. If you have natural gas to the house you should look at doing a tankless heater and you will alleviate that problem.

Turns out the reduced flow to the sinks was simply a clog in the aerator screens on the faucets. I don't think it is a mineral issue though. My water heater is a 97 model so I am thinking it may have a faulty dip tube and may be getting pieces of PVC in there. Hopefully when I flush it (correctly this time) I will be able to tell for sure. Probably going to replace the shower heads anyway though.

Well I am used to reduced flow and a flash of cold water when somebody flushes, it was the quick pulsating (like the massage feature on some shower heads) that I thought was odd. Maybe it is normal though, I will continue to look into it.

All electric house here. If replacing the dip tube isn't a realistic option I may be installing a new water in the not too distant future though.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it man.
