  • Seal wood top on work bench?

Wife bought me a work bench/tool chest that has a solid wood top. Should I seal the wood top so it doesn't stain /soak up oil and other stuff? Trying to figure out what to use to protect it.

it wouldn't hurt anything. I'd use a stain that has the sealer mixed in. IMO though, it's going to stain eventually. If you want to keep it looking like new, you can get a sheet of clear plastic at home depot and size it to lay on top.

Just understand that it will get scratched and stained. However, a yearly coat won't hurt anything at all.

I remember trying to treat stuff so nice I never used it. F-that.

Edit: Curious is it the Costco one?

I suppose I will just give it a quick spray down with some clear polyurethane and call it good. I figure it's going to be too annoying and hard to keep it perfect, might as well use the shit out of it and give it character :-)

It's the home depot /husky model. I liked the Costco model but this one matches my tool chest which is also husky /hd.
