  • Great shop heater

Bought this cheap propane heater from lowes for $99, had a 25lb propane tank already, had it filled. My shop is 24 x 36 and this thing heated it from 61 degrees to 72 in 14 minutes. After about 30-45 minutes I had turned it off cause it was almost too warm lol. My shop has spray foam insulation, so Im sure that helps but still impressed none the less. Nice price if your looking for something and don't want the diesel/kerosene smell in the shop.

30,000BTU is a bit much for a garage shop like mine. I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these instead.

It cost a little more but you have the option of going with the 1lb propane tanks or that 25lbs tank. It maxes out at 18000BTU but can go down as low as 4000BTU. It can heat up a 400sq ft room for 108hours on 20lbs of propane..

I have one of those in my garage and it will heat the hell out of it.
My garage and garage door is insulated so that helps but the other day it was 48 degrees in there and after about 45 mins with this thing running it got up to 74.

My garage door is uninsulated and drafty... I'm curious to see how it performs under those conditions. I picked mine up yesterday but I haven't had a chance to try it out. Today's weather should pose a really good challenge for it..

I would insulate the door, it's fairly cheap and quick to do and made a big difference in my garage.
My garage is on the rear of the house and faces east so it really doesn't get any direct wind hitting it so I know that helps also

I like my split unit a/c and heat system. It warms up my garage in 15 minutes or so even on cold days like this. 3 car with insulated doors.

I have some 3/4" foil backed foam insulation that anyone can have as long as they come get it. There is at least 3 sheets 30" wide and 8' long plus tons of scraps you can pick through. PM if interested.

Speaking of heaters. I have one of those old school kerosene torpedo heaters similar to that that doesn't work anymore. It tries to fire up and blows but it wont ever fire up completely. Anybody know where a person could get this fixed?

Iv got a heater similar to the one posted. Personally I would get a used on craiglist that uses diesel/kerosene. I stay out in my shop for 8-10hrs at a time and I a 30lbs can of propane only lasts a day or two.

My garage already has ventilation with the water heater. I keep the propane heater next to it.

I also keep a carbon monoxide detector nearby. The heater has a built in oxygen depletion sensor that turns off the gas if there isn't enough O2 (or too much CO^2) in the garage..

I had the same thing happen on mine this year. On mine with the cover off the 90 degree elbow that's behind the fan was loose. I believe that's a pump to pressurize the tank. I backed it out all the way, put some teflon tape on the threads and put it back in tight and it fired off like it should on the next try. Maybe that's all yours needs.
