  • Can this be done....

Ok, I currently have a 60x30 shop and wanting to expand 30' on the backside so that it will be a 60x60. The problem is the roof pitch down grades on the backside and Im being told by a couple people (not professionals) the expansion cant happen.

Im currently in Afghanistan so I dont have any real good pics. Actually these are the only 2 I have...haha. I also made a drawing in paint. Nothing special or to spec, so please dont laugh. Just did it real quick to show what Im trying to accomplish.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciative...

Problem will be that if you stay with that roof pitch and extend it another 30 feet, the wall height will be very low. If its a 1/12 pitch, that will drop it 30 inches over the 30 feet. That puts you below 8 foot. (assuming that's a 10 foot wall and its a 12/1 pitch). A lot of those buildings have a 2/12, that drops you 60 inches from 10 feet, thats only a 5 foot sidewall...

                dcs13,
Im not sure of the exact pitch it has, but I dont want to stay with it. My thinking is if I make it a flat roof from the peak, I will be able to do the addon as well as have the height for two large OH doors and attic space over the interior rooms.

You can add on to the end of it, but not front or back. Not in a 'cost effective' manner, at least.

You'd have to take on a pretty massive overhaul of the existing structure to make it feasible. Whether it's worth it or not is up to you.
