  • securing a Door

So i have an interior Closset door that i want to make "secure".
basically so if some one breaks in its enough of a pain in the ass to break it down/kick it in that it's not worth their time in a snatch and grab style break in.. any thoughts..?
I want to put my safe in this closet but want to make it so that its a pain in the ass to get into the room before dealing with the safe..

i found this ,but was wondering what anyone else is using..

Almost all modern interior doors are "hollow core", meaning there's not much to them: a foot or fist would go right through one. I have used steel doors set in steel jams for "safe rooms" (weather protection, mainly). You would remove the existing door and frame, and it would bolt into your existing space using large hardened 3" screws. You can also paint it to match the other doors in the house.

Metal door(or solid wood, since most closets are hollow) and frame would be my first option, opening in if possible(might not have the room) and if not cover up the hinges so they cant be removed to get the door out of the way. And toss in a deadbolt or two? Problem is if the walls next to it arent secure its just as easy to plow something big thru the wall surrounding it.

yeah.. but we have an alarm.. just trying to avoid some one being able to run in grab a bunch of shit and GTFO.. my thought is if the alarm is going off.. they arent going to spend the time kicking through the wall ( would have to move a bunch of heavy shit out of the way " and just grab other shit and run.

Good solid door and a metal frame(and or metal skin door) would still be just fine then. Odds are they wont, but if they really think there's something back there to get they might waste the time. Crackheads/robbers aren't always smart.

The house has an alarm.. and if the alarm isnt on.. it means im home.. which realistically means they have bigger things to worry about...

After the door, make sure to bolt down the safe. Most people apparently don't.

I'm not sure your plan, but I'd assume nothing about what a meth head (or any other person) will do once they've busted into your home.
