Heat Pump Issue/Question

So I finally gave in and turned the heat on at my house 2 days ago. Well I say "turned on" like it was easy. I have a digital thermostat and it had no heat option.

After going into technician mode, I was able to tell it to go to 3h,2c mode (three heat, two cold mode)

Then "heat" was available. Kicked on the outside unit and voila, heat!

Tried to turn heat on again last night, only emergency heat came on. Outside unit stayed off. Tried to enter tech mode to turn it to 2h,2c, option no longer exists.

Tried to turn A/C on, outside unit wouldn't turn on, but it was 52*, so that may have prevented the compressor from kicking on.

I know jack about Heat Pumps. Mine works/worked...is there some sort of trick to them?

I have a 3h/2c on my new house and having problems too. After 5 min it shuts off and flashes a code for over pressure. Guy says our blower motor is bad but it works fine for the ac. Guess we will see tomorrow with the new motor. Sorry I'm no help.

What is the model of your stat. There is other settings that need to be made in installer setup.

Just an update:

Turns out the AC disconnect was broken...well I knew it was broken, but it was more broken than it used to be. Outside unit was only getting 4.5v at the contact switch. So, had my brother in law come over as I don't know too much about this and we bought a $7 disconnect at home depot, swapped it all out and now everything is groovy.

So, check your voltage!

Have a different hvac company at the house right now. When they ran the tstat wires they didn't run enough. I need 9 and only have 8.
