My boss has one I believe he may sell. He bought it and then decided to go with a natural wood burning fire pit. PM me your email and I can give you the details on it. May work for you, save you a little money and if not I can at least let you know where he got it.

We used this one in Colorado this summer while there was a burn ban and it worked great:

You could place this as a stand alone unit or build something around it.. It wasn't even turned all the way up in these pics.. Comes with all of the attachments.

i like that but want to do it the other way around. i want to have it so the middle is for wood and the ring acts like an actual ring around for small flames. basically they will just be "show flames" if that makes sense?

Sounds like you will need something custom then. You don't want flames coming right out of the ring without going through some rocks or something to disperse the flames. So you would need a metal firepit then a gas ring in a larger diameter with a trough so that you can cover the ring to disperse the flame.

Yeah something like that. I was wanting to use glass rock on the "top/outside ring" with firebrick for the part containing wood. The wood would be for when its actually cold out. The propane ring would be for when its nice out and just want the flames at night.

We researched this a lot when we were building our patio and fire pit (see the thread for pics). In the end, I ran black pipe to the pit and then to a tank (50#propane) storage area with pipe and regulators etc. When the rocked the pit in, they put the shut off valve and stubbed it out into the inside of the pit in the fire brick. So far I have not used the gas and we have not bought a ring for it. I have used it as a wood burner and can tell you it is wonderful.

There is a place of 121 that is a BBQ store. I want to say it is BBQ Galore. The guy can get you rings in any size. The ring is cheap, it is the air regulator and such where the majority of you money will go.

Right now we have a 3"-4" base of lava rock in the bottom of ours and if I did a ring it would sit near the top on stilts with a basin filled with lava rock to cover the ring, to help disperse the fire and absorb the heat.

thats really good looking. im wanting the ring to be on the top outside part though as opposed to the inside.

Are you building a patio along with your firepit? What is your budget?

We used BMR Pools and they were easy to work with and the most relieble I could find.

A fire ring around the outside is a nice touch.

Just building the pit alone. id like to do it myself so not real sure on budget. I know I could make a basic round pit for pretty cheap but don't know about the propane part...
