I saw a house down the street from me that appears they tried to "stain" their siding to look like wood. Either that or they watered down the paint to where you can still see the light colored siding. Either way, it looks like shit. I'm sure, unless professionally done, it would look like shit too, even then, knowing it's not actually wood, might still look like shit.

You can paint them to look like wood doors. BUT I wouldnt recommend it. The people that Ive done this too in the past bought new doors and I sent them out to get professionally done. Its quite pricy. Metal doors still blow away wood doors from a maintenance standpoint.

You could buy "courtyard" doors for your home. They look like the carriage wood doors but are metal with insulation and boards attatched on the exterior to look like planks

Paint stores have "gel stain" kits that look pretty damn good. They are meant to give metal and fiberglass front doors the "stained wood" look. My painter has used it on front doors for me with good results. Longevity and durability might be an issue if the doors face west.

That is what got me thinking to do it. I have seen a lot metal front doors where they have stained them and they looked pretty good. The doors face south so fading should not be a issue.
