  • Quick plumbing question

I have a 1/2" copper pipe with a threaded nipple on one end. I want to attach a ball valve on it but I'm a little confused. I haven't bought the valve yet because I want to be sure it will work first. Here's what's confusing me....the nipple is a NPT(male end) thread and the valve I'm considering states its a FIPT(female iron pipe thread), will they mesh?

    NPT.....National Pipe Thread
    MIPS......Male Iron Pipe Size
    FIPS ......Female Iron Pipe Size

All the same tapered threads and will work. Be sure to hold the adapter that is soldered to the copper with a wrench so you don't twist that copper pipe or break the solder joint. Use some pipe thread compound on the threads.
