  • what can i do about this?

When the house was built, the builder poured concrete over some water or sewage pipe or something, so they had to break it up and pour more concrete without covering the lid to this pipe. Well, they did a piss poor job at it and it has always been uneven. Now it seems to be getting worse and everyone that walks past it trips over it. This is my problem right? Its my driveway but its close to the sidewalk. Theres nothing the city can do?

        Your driveway, your problem.

You will need to have someone come in and pull off the two joints on concrete that are sinking, then have them check to make sure there is no water or sewage leaking underneath that is causing the failure. If there are no leaks then whoever put the concrete down didn't compact that soil properly and now it is settling over time. I find those all the time being in the underground utility industry.

Wouldn't the city be on the hook for the portion of it thats in their ROW?

That spot on the right side is the reason why they had to redo the concrete. Its the lid to something, idk what. I might check with the city to see what they say but I don't expect them to help me or anything.

I was going to mention that as well - but I don't know who in the area actually does it.

Seems to me that the city is just trying to convince the property owner that it's their problem but in reality, the city is responsible.

Not unless they have recently done some work within the right of way that immediately affected his driveway. The driveway, even within the utility easement, is still the part of his owned property. Something like a curb would be something the city would fix, or a broken water or sewer pipe that is on City's side of the easement.

Not really. It's a fairly simple and quick job. They will be able to tell easily if there is a leak without having to dig down very far.
