How hard and if even possible would it be to move the water heater into the house? Currently our water heater is in our laundry room by the garage, i was thinking about moving it to one of our closets by our rooms to make a pantry in the laundry room, we have a concrete slab foundation. TIA

Why not move it into the garage? In the event you have a leak, it will do the least amount of damage there.

I thought about that but I wanted to turn the garage into another room

Why hell yes they are. Shark bite fittings and hose are great. Saved me at leat 2k and busting my foundation.

As a matter of fact a lot of new houses are going this route due to copper theft.

Sweet, I have never seen any running thru the attic that is why I asked, I didn't want to have to bust my foundation either if I were to move it

My SIS had her water heater moved to the attic. I'm thinking about doing this just to free up some space to expand bathroom.

You boys ever seen one bust? I say pour you a little slab out side, put it on that, and then close it in/trim it out.

Oh yeah I couldn't think of it last night but the hosing is called PEX. HD and Lowes have it and the Shark Bites. Forbes was kind enough to turn me onto them in my little time of crisis. Used them when I installed my water heater also. Made it about an hour of a job.

According to most building codes, you can do it. Since Murphy runs the show around me, no way in hell I'm putting one in the attic. The sharkbite onnections are the stuff though. Very cool.

The downside of the PEX tubing is that they cannot put it in concrete, because it expands, so they run it thru attics and walls. My house is 4 years old, and my water has frozen to my kitchen sink twice now. That part sux.

I haven't seen her set up but I'm sure there are certain requirements to make this method meet code. I'm pretty sure it has to sit in some kind of pan with a proper drain so just in case it gives up the ghost damage will be to a minimum. I have a buddy up in Murphy that has a huge garage/shop and he has two large water heaters in the attic. Been that way for about ten years with no issues.

I am just saying. 10 years is about the life of electric so who knows. My parents is in the closet, smack in the center of the house, and I have seen it pop twice. Both times we were out of town so it flooded the house. Plus in a shop I don't think it would be near the damage of a house but I haven't seen his shop. The one I just replaced was put in around 85 and still working decent but it was natural gas.
