Hanging a FS TV on a brick fireplace

Been looking at houses built about 30-40 years ago. Most have a central fireplace & back in the day you put the tube TV to the left, or right of the brick FP.

If I wanted to hang a 52" flat screen on the brick FP, what do you do with all the cables? You can't go behind the brick...

I can only think of some type of conduit, but that sounds ugly.
