Wood floors going in (pic heavy)

Well I finally bit the bullet and I'm having Wood floors put in the house. I got any estimate to replace the carpert and that was $2,700. I figured since we plan on living in this house 2 to 3 more years the carpet will need to be replaced again before we sell it so why not just spend the money on the wood floors and make the house pop. I'm not sure wood floors will raise the value of the house any, but it's gotta at least make it easier to sell.

I knew our carpet was dirty but holly shit. You really can't tell how dirty it is until you move the furniture. The bad thing is this carpet is only 3 years old and it's been shampooed several times.






This is disgusting. It shows all the dirt, sand, and dust between the carpet and the pad.






Here is the flooring and the glue.



When the house was built the painters decided to paint all the doors and trim in this room. The poor flooring crew had to scrap the entire room.



All finished with that.



Next they had to float the entire floor. They said they just do it this way cause it's easier, faster, and cleaner. Plus it will give me a tighter floor in the long run.




Finally they start laying some wood.






I'll be posting more pics as they get the work done. So far the floor looks great. In case anyone is wondering its a 5in real handscrapped floor in Maple. It's extremely rustic and has hand chiseled edges. We love it.

They are just going to lay shoe molding along the baseboards. If they would of taken it up it would of cost alot more cause then it wouldn't have matched up to all the other areas of the house. Being there is tile and still carpet we would of had to redo all the base boards in the house. It would of cost an extra grand to do that. Not to mention a pain in the ass.

For turn key it's coming out to a hair under $10 a square foot. That's everything though: product, labor, glue, shoe molding, demo, haul away, paint, floor prep, you name it. I decided to go with a company that's been in business over 100 years. They offer a lifetime warranty on the floor and labor against any defects that could come up later down the road. If something goes wrong they will fix it and if they can't fix I'll get a new floor free of charge. They aren't the cheapest though, but piece of mind is never cheap. All the other companies only want to warranty the floor for 1 year.

Furniture geting moved back in.






I was impressed with the crew and they were able to lay 600 sqft and do all the trim in one day. The only thing they couldn't do was a couple of the transition pieces. The installer didn't like the color of them and wanted to reorder them. Everything should be buttoned up by tomorrow afternoon

It wasn't worth dicking with putting down a plywood subfloor. Plus the handscraped at that price point in 3/4 isn't really handscraped. It's all machine scraped and the pattern is repeated over and over and over. Looks like shit in long runs. The product I got each board is 100% hand scraped and chiseled and no two boards look the same.

Looks awesome; I love wood floors. I helped a friend pull up old carpet several years ago and I was absolutely disgusted with what was underneath. No vacuum truly cleans carpet.

I never said they used a machine on your floors. I said that for 3/4 flooring at the price point that I was at that's your only option. Different strokes for different folks. That's why they make different products. There are pros and cons to each and for my application engineered was the way to go.

LOL I am a cheap ass. That's why I got wood floors. By the time I recarpet this house twice it would have cost more than the wood floors. Plus if I'm forced to open my wallet I'm not doing it for cheap shit. I learned along time ago that you buy the highest quality/most expensive stuff you can afford and it will always save you money in the long run. Fuck replacing cheap shit 2 or 3times over.
