Typically, they are mass-produced two-story boxes, with lots of square feet. Entire neighborhoods with houses that look the same.

Buddy at work was selling a house up in Corinth that he needed to dump. Numbers sounded really good a first... 4200sq ft house for $150k.. Looked at it and it is a gigantic square house with equal upper and lower square footage. Pics from the inside are laminate counters, vinyl tile floors etc... The whole neighborhood has about 4 designs.

                    That house is a McMansion

I guess I live in a McMansion. We have 2k-4k sq/ft houses, and about 6 different designs. Not a nicely trimmed inside, not a ton of extras or custom anything. It was cheap, and in the area we wanted.

I consider a McMansion a house that has high sqft, and built with lower quality and low
                        budget appointments.

There is another kind of McMansion too.
In the housing decline, many of the new mansion neighborhoods in development had to
switch over to house builds that were significantly less expensive, but still matched with
                        the look of the neighborhood.
These McMansions are houses that look like mansions from the street, but there's no back
side to the house. It's basically the front half of a mansion. Looks cartoonish from the
side view. Half the square foot of the other mansions.

Guess thats what those houses off 1187 almost to 35 are. Reminds me of the house from edward scissor hands. All painted funky colors.
