  • Can fogged double pane windows be resealed?

Looking at a house, but it has several fogged double pane windows. Can those be resealed? Or is it replacement only?

If these can be resealed, what is the typical cost per wiondow?

Once the seal is broken and moisture gets in, they're pretty much toast. Replacement cost depends on size and whether the windows are aluminum or vinyl. About $100 per pane will be close. They will be noted upon your inspection. In most cases, the homeowner will replace them or give you an allowance/credit for getting it done.

Yea, just ask for a window replacement allowance after your home inspection.

x3 on above. Technically, the answer is yes but EVERYONE will tell you just to replace them for a 1001 good reasons.

We had the same experience with our old windows. We eventually got energy-efficient replacement windows for the whole house. It’s been over a year and we’re really happy. They keep the house cooler in summer and warmer in winter. We’ve noticed some reduction in our utility bills as well.
