  • Ok, Ac just stopped working.....Help!

Compressor was still running when I noticed it warming up in the house. The fan above the compressor is not spinning. I can free spin it. So it is not froze up. I hear it is normally the capacitor. But I have hear of there being two capacitors. I only see one. Any Help would be appreciated. Took me a second to figure out what the hell that was on the connections. LOL

That's a contactor that the lizard is on. The capacitor is on the left. Can you get a model number? Chances are its the capacitor.

The cap is for the top fan and the compressor. And clean that lizard up while you have the power off. You might be able to have someone turn the a/c on and spin the fan with a stick or something. Grainger has the caps. I'd buy two while you're there.

OK, how do I know which capacitor to buy? There is not a part number on the rusty one I have. (took it loose and spun it looking for one)

Model number is Janitrol CE30-1HB WHICH IS THE same as Goodman I believe. I am searching but not coming up with a part number. Whew, it's hot.

          LOL, Lizard is off there

Seems when i pull up the model number it always pulls up an oval capacitor. So I googled the same description with "round" instead of oval in the description and came up with this

I'll say again, I don't think it's the cap. I'm no tech though. Both times mine have gone out, the fan turned but compressor wouldn't run. Mine has two caps, but not all do. On my system, one is a start cap, and one is the run cap. But again, only affects the compressor.

If the cap is bad, you should be able to tell visually. It will be bulging at the seams on the top.

You have a duel run cap or two seperate caps. Sounds like the fan side of the duel cap is bad.

I have one capacitor, so it has to be dual

Not bulging bcoop, but rusty as hell. I will run some checks. It started working again, so things will get worse the more I run it. It only ran about an hour at the most without the fan. I felt it getting hotter (2-3 degrees) and turned it off.

You need a 5/40/370 capacitor. Got this from the Goodman site. I have the parts list if you would like it.

cleaned it and put it all back together and it's working. I am thinking the lizard had something to do with it. but I will have to monitor it over the weekend
