  • I'm gonna get owned in my water bill

First I'll say i'll take blame.. but its whatever.

CoServ came to our neighborhood and put in new "advanced" meters on Monday and it reset all the power in our house. No biggie.

Yesterday was our allowed watering day and i noticed my neighbors were watering their lawn a lot longer than usual that morning. I mean for almost 4 hours or longer..

(i dont know the exact time but i woke up around 7:30 and still saw it going on till around 11ish)

So i didnt think much of it..... figured they wanted to run the sprinkler on a lot longer.

Last night i turn on my water system and i ONLY water the front yard for about 40 minutes total. Never the backyard.

I wake up this morning and saw my backyard sprinkler system was on and went immediately to my sprinkler system. Settings 1-3 are my front yard and settings 4-6 are for my backyard. I noticed 4-6 were actually set for some reason.. (4) 30 minute (5) 5 HRS (6) 6 HRS

I turned off the system when it was at Setting 6 with 4 hours left. Basically my water system ran for 7 or 8 hours

My guess is after my power got reset, it reset my water system? I've reset the power in my house before but never noticed my water system doing this... Its 5:45am and im done bitching.

Smart meters, the gift that keeps on fucking you over...

I managed to get my house skipped over. They did every home in the neighborhood but I wouldn't let him turn the power off because I was working. I did tell him he could come back the next day but he never did.

Unfortunately the new house already has a smart meter..

I think I read about these in the past....

      Do I have it right?

Smart Meter = F you over more on electric bill meter, but does nothing to condition power or anything useful to the homeowner.

someone posted this on our local city chatter:
Some other things to ponder: They can read your meter remote, so no need to pay meter readers. The bad part involves job losses...as well as an additional $2.00 per month on your electric bill for the next 11 years to pay for the new meters. Hmm, now who is it that's *really* saving money here?
But someone else said there are no fees for it... guess i'll have to wait for my bill.

oh and after going to Coserv website i got my answer

          Wireless Communication Information
          Q:

Why did my lawn sprinkler, spa, or other device with an automatic timer reset when you changed my meter?
          A:

Unless equipped with non-volatile memory or back-up battery power, automated timing devices generally do not have the ability to “remember” settings during a power outage. As a result, these devices will usually return to their default settings following any type of power interruption.

I used to have a Hunter sprinkler controller that would do that. If I lost power and the 9V backup battery was dead, it would reset all the zones to "flood the yard" mode and the sprinklers would run all night.

That's a good bit of water used, but I don't it's going to be overly bad.

22 zones at 14 minutes each 3 times a week gets me a $300 a month bill. That is HALF what TrueGreen says I should be watering too. I really need to drill that well.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

One thing I didn't miss was the ass fucking that is the texas utility design.

Our average electric bill in Colorado (3200+ sq ft home) was $70 with gas in the winter running ~$85.

They pulled that shit on us last year. Now we read it ourselves the first of every month and record it.
