Anyone got a dethatcher?

I need to beg, borrow, rent, whatever a drag behind dethatcher. The non-powered rake kind I can pull behind my mower. My land has years of thatch and this awful looking grass I want to do away with so I can get a good start with some bermuda or similar.

Does anyone have one of these out my way possibly to borrow? i know they are only around $120 for one, but cash is tight right now.

Off topic a bit, do they actually work? Almost seem like an aerator maybe better, the way I've rationalized it - is after a certain amount of use it would push all that junk into the ground. (Of course, I probably have one of the worst looking lawns on the board)
