Bumping this up.

So how do ya'll that have a Nest like it? I'm thinking of ditching the stupid one I have. The schedule works great, but if anyone changes the temp, it automatically HOLDs that new setting and will stay there until you hit the Program button to unset that HOLD. Fucking pisses me off! Especially since we have house guests and she seems to change it if she wakes up earlier than the AM program kicks it up a few degrees so it's warm when we get out of bed... Grrrrrrr...

Does it automatically know the difference between heating and cooling the house so you don't have to flip a switch on it? Like my current thermostat (some Honeywell model) is either on heat or cool. So, like if I tell it to keep the house 73 degrees, it will either use heat if it is cooler than that, or AC if it is warmer than that???

I have mine setup on heat/cool... if it drops below 70, the heat comes on and above 76 the a/c comes on. We honestly leave it alone and let it do its thing. We dont bump it up temporarily. When you get out of bed and walk past the thing, it should switch from away mode to home or whatever its called and try harder to keep within the temps set.

That kinda worries me, about it getting walked by. Once the house guests leave, nobody will walk by the thermo unless they go to the guest bathroom. It's located on the far away wall in the living room, sort of by the 2 spare bedrooms/bathroom area. I never go back there, especially when I wake up and get ready for work.


kpc01, the sensi seems similar to what I have really, except maybe it won't stick on the temporary temp someone sets that is not part of the schedule. Or did I miss something on the description part? Thought it had to be set to heat or cool, not do whatever it needs to maintain the temp desired. That's one thing about Nest I like. I've had several nights I had the AC on to cool it down enough to sleep, then in the AM it is too cool, LOL.

You can set it to not do the "away" mode and always keep it the same temp

Sensi is wi-fi so you have full control at your phone or pc. (or at the wall). it is auto changeover so you can set your heating to whatever you like and your cooling to whatever you like and turn it to auto changeover. In auto it will keep it within the settings you use. if someone adjusts it at the wall it will keep that setpoint for two hours or until the next program time period(whichever is first). The only thing recommended is your heat and cool temperatures are at least 3 degrees apart but that would be the same with any stat be it Sensi or nest

I say overrated. I like the $80ish Honeywell just fine. 7 day programmable and if I do need to bump it up/down, it will reset to the program at the next time interval.

Also, at work, we know the hours we will be open/closed so a dumb 7 day on/off unit works fine. The nest does stuff like if I turn on the front unit on a day we're closed, it turns on the back unit automatically which is not needed. I gave it parameters upon initial installation but after a while, I got tired of the weirdness and turned off all auto controls.

I can see it for remote control of a second house or something but otherwise, overrated IMO.

Is the Nest also controllable/visible via a smart phone? I have my Dad's house in Tyler that is for sale and I would like to keep tabs on it.

I go down there once every two weeks and damn real estate agents are always leaving it too cool or too hot and running the unit when it doesn't need to be ran.

Nest and sensi are both wifi and can be watched or controlled from the phone. if you are selling the home might be worth getting the cheap honeywell or the sensi instead of dropping 250 on nest. I have a deal on the sensi stat that gets it below 100 too

Hmm, do you work for them? In sales? This one does sound interesting, especially for the price. yes I'm a manufacturers rep for Emerson and this is our newest Wi-Fi. One thing I was surprised is how much I did use the phone control once I had it. Its a pretty nice stat but if your current ones working good most of the time might not be a big deal just waiting them out. if you do decide you want to try it out just let me know. we sell through wholesalers but I have a friends and family type code to get it a good deal on it.

Gonna bump this one again.

First installed nest works fine. Fast forward to this past Monday, upstairs thermostat takes a shit. That's cool, I'll replace it with a Nest. Wife bought it while I was at work. I get home, wire it up just like the one we bought last year for downstairs, and it's not cooling properly. Heat feels like it's not heating, and when I set it to cool, it heats instead. WTF!?

I'm red/green colorblind, but I'm fairly certain it's wired the same way between the two. Please correct me if I'm wrong. It's 85 fucking degrees upstairs!

Alright, so I just spent almost an hour on the phone with Nest. Turns out the contractors wired the upstairs unit differently than the downstairs unit. Everything's working properly now. Nest's customer service is fantastic...
