  • Attic Fan Wiring?

I'm going to get 2 attic fans installed, they each come with thermostats. What's the easiest way to wire these?

I was under the impression that the electricity cost of running them out weighs the gains. Is this a myth?

I installed one and ran wires from the attic light to the fan... since this is on a switch I just unscrewed my light bulb enough so that it would not be lit up all the time.

so you can either do that since its closer to the fan then the switch itself or you can run wires to your light switch and get your got and ground BEFORE the switch.

I'd say that the elecricity usage is worth it because the fans suck out the hot air pretty quickly and then shut off..

my elec. bill is always so cheap that I can't honestly say if it helped or hurt out bill but I feel better about it

I have two attic fans in my attic and it does help, they are both on thermos. From what I understand they take up about the same power as ceilling fans.

Yes, it is. As mentioned, they cost about as much to run as ceiling fans but they have a greater effect because they are ventilating the heat from your attic.

Of course you could do like me and install solar powered attic fans. I'm pretty sure mine paid for itself years ago...

Well I'm considering an electric one, I bought 2 solar attic fans and hope to have them installed today. Was still thinking about adding an electric one later.

There is no comparison to the cfm solar versis powered

solar fans move less than a 1/10th of the air of a powered fan.
ignore cfm ratings of solar fans, compare one and you'll see what I mean.

cfm ratings on solar fans must be made about 100 miles from the sun, lol, their a joke.

the newer solar attic fans are effective with an adequate number of soffit vents. even my sunrise 850 moves a decent amount of air for what it is. i set the thermostat at *90
