The rails are completely done (stained) and about half of the surface is stained. Between the high temps and being out of town it's been a slow process on staining it. Especially with a damn brush. After the first coat on the rails I finally got smart and went and bought a cheap HLVP spray gun from harbor freight. It uses alot mor material but looks ten times better than a brush.

I'm going to finish it up this saturday since it looks like the rain will be out of the forcast by then.

For somebody who had no clue what they were doing it looks like you did a really good job. Looks very nice man.

thanks man, I was really just a worker bee. My boy Curtis was the master planner and had all the tools. I learned a lot though and feel like I could probably build one myself now, but not to that scale.

Can someone explain to me why people in TX seem to refuse to treat their fences?

My dad used to stain ours probably twice a year, that damn thing looked cabinet grade

Laziness I guess for me. It was unstained since I bought the house and in recent years I have not done it because it's probably going to need to be replaced within 2-3 years.

Now the deck is making everything else look like shit as far as the fence and the deck on the other side of the pool ( not pictured). So I'm going to stain the fence sometime this year, nothing crazy just enough to get me through until I replace it or sell the house.

How do you apply it, just spray it through the power washer like you would soap when I wash it ?

                  EDIT/ that's probably a bad idea lol

My dad used to get the stuff in powder form, like shockit, and mix it with water in a pressure sprayer. Mask/tyvek suit up and sprayed it. I take no responsibility for your safety.

Deck looks good. How much beer will it take to have you come out and build one now that you know how to do it?

Off topic, but what in the hell is in your neighbors back yard.

We use straight bleach to clean the wood on our porch at work. My concern if I were you would be the grass. Not sure how the chlorine/bleach/chemicals would affect your yard.

This method brought the majority of our decorative stuff outside to a state that appeared to me to be stainable. Though still a bit gray, it was much brighter. Not sure how it would take the stain or look after it was all said and done
