WTF, yeah man even I saw problems with that roof install and I don't wtf I'm looking at. Think about rain blow horizontal or otherwise backing up during high wind and take a look at the roof.

The 4th picture down is either an illusion or a problem.

It looks like they screwed up the shingle overlap too, no?

holy shit man I have seen middle school kids do better jobs than that. It sucks you are so far along with this builder/subs or I would tell you just to tell them to fuck off.

Mike is the roofer, but they can easily tear out some around that chimney and properly flash around it. 90% of my flashing is done before the shingles go down (duh!), then they can add some or counter-flash as needed. Mike can verify this, but most of the NEW homes that have water issues, stem from the chimney not being properly flashed/shingled.

This is the truth. Flashing is the make it or break it on a roof, and the number one source of leaks.

Step flashing: one piece for each shingle, overlapping the previous going down the slope. It looks like a solid piece on the uphill side, going across the cricket. If that is one piece it needs to be J flashing, which has a 180 degree fold in the side under the shingles. Really need to just look at it. You're about 60 miles away but I'll try and make it up next week.

Thanks. The floor is back in and hope to have the drywall fixed by the end of the week. Can't wait for paint.

After two weeks we are caught up to where we were before from all the water damage from the roof, went out there today and the painters stained all the cabinets the wrong color. Wife called the builder and he said that was what they used in all of their houses even though we picked out a different color at the design center and he has all that information.

It sounds like your builder is one of the three stooges. I would second the vote to get a third party inspector, to find all the rest that you and mikec do not find.

I feel for you, and good luck with it. I like the design and look, but your builder needs beaten with a stick.

Man this sounds like a nightmare! Im probably going to be upgrading the house soon and on one hand I hear stay away from cookie cutter houses because they cheap out, on the other hand I hear custom builders will lie and cheat you every chance they get. Your damned if you do and your damned if you dont. Sucks your not even done and already having to deal with leaks and stuff. Looks like life will be nice when you get it all squared away though.

Jesus Christ. I thought I had problems when I built a house last year. I'd definitely hire an independent inspector. I did on mine and it was money well spent. He came out several times during the build and caught all sorts of dumbfuckery. How did they do the master shower? Kerdi I hope?

Shower liner on the bottom and up the walls some then a blue colored drywall. That's how it sits at this stage
