  • Going through concrete deck,Jackhammer?

Needing to go through a 6'' concrete deck to repair some plumbing underneth..I need to make a hole thats about 18'' across

I seen that Home Depot has an Electric jackhammer to rent, has anyone used one of these electric hammers and is this the best way to get through the deck??

For a small whole I would just get small chop saw with a concrete blade.

Is this a post-tension slab or rebar/steel? My point is: do you have to worry about hitting cables.

That's good. If there's any question, you can walk around the house and look for cable "plugs" (the cable ends are concreted over). You really don't want to hit (and snap) a cable.

Yep, walk around the slab and look for grout pockets. You damn sure don't want to hit a PT cable otherwise you'll be hate'n life. Even if it it PT the deck may have been poured separate of the house foundation. If you don't have to worry about PT cables I would saw cut it, it will make for a cleaner repair afterwards.
