I would use a Tillar & till it all up & put down Grass seed or just do Bermuda & prune the tree so you can get some sunlight, But if you do grass seed, Put down some Hay on top off it till the grass starts coming up nice & thick & at the begining of every season you need to let your grass grown high so it re seeds itself, If you dont you will not have a yard the following yearGOD BLESS TEXAS

A big thank you to everyone who chimed in on this. The attempt at bermuda failed. As I figured it would once I realized, after I spread the seed, that it needed ample amounts of sun.
Most of the weeds and crap that was growing in this section of the yard has pretty well died off. There is a good deal of clover (i think) that is still green and prominent in a few areas. I have also noticed that there is some St. Augustine that is coming in. It is along the driveway and the front corner where the walk from the house meets the sidewalk. I've tried to keep it watered and the runners turned back into the yard off of the driveway. I didn't realize how quickly this stuff shoots off its runners. I noticed a few tufts a little over a week ago, and they are already spreading like crazy. A question. When I spread the bermuda seed, I spread some starter fertilizer along with it. This was done on april 17. Is it too soon, or would it be pointless to lay some fertilizer (insert recommendation here) to help the st augustine thrive and spread?Originally posted by LeahBest balls I've had in my mouth in a while.

I haven't gotten any fertilizer down yet, but I am starting to get hopeful. I've been watering for 3 days now and the areas under the trees are spreading nicely. On the other side of the walk way, around the side of the house, most all of the grass there is st. Augustine. I'm hoping I can get it all to fill in the bare spots around the side of the house.
One question I've got, I've got some St. Augustine growing in areas I plan to convert to landscaping, what is the best way to transplant the grass growing in these areas to the bare spots under the tree?Originally posted by LeahBest balls I've had in my mouth in a while.
