haha, I'm no fool when it comes to heat. Just never heard of pookie before. After the definitions provided (TY prior posters), it's nothing perverted...

Yes, this house was a foreclosure. I just realized, we had found out that there is already a TXV on the outside unit, it is for R22. The old unit was a 5 ton 12 SEER, and I looked up this new model number and it is a 5 ton 13 SEER... so hardly any change.

I will probably take the TXV back

be sure to check all those small lines in your outside unit for rubs, it can rub through the copper lines where they touch, easy to fix but hard to find. Be sure you have a p-trap on your condensate line from the inside unit.

Are you a service provider? I would very much like my unit filled up for $25/lb. I also need the lines sweated on as well. Where are the small lines generally located? In the metal fins?

There was already a p-trap installed from the original unit, it is now cleared out but I am stopping while I am ahead, I plan on letting the pro's take it from here.

You will still need a TXV inside as well .25.00.a pound for R22 is not reachable now with it being close to 400.00 a jug.

Ah, so one outside and inside eh? Cool, will let the pro handle it.

And yes, I am well aware of the $40/lb cost it is now...sucks...

400 for a jug of r22? That's just bullshit typical beginning of summer markup. I buy refrigerant at least once a week and none of the local parts houses charge close to that.

Are you thinking small cans or a different refrigerant, R410A or something like that? He is talking R22, and keep in mind service guys are usually buying the bigger jugs that are close to the size of a 5 gallon bucket. My FIL owns an ac service company, told me the same thing a few weeks ago.

Most guys won't touch your system because of the problems that they will inherit. Repairs are one thing, trying to finish up after a "handy man special" is a different ball game.

                  R22 in 30lbs containers.

$330.00+27.25 in tax isn't close to $400.00? As far as being early summer markup, I really don't think so, I've never known anyone to mark up refrigerant at the first of summer, most suppliers run specials on refrigerant just to get the contractors moving this time of year, ie; Goodman just ran a one day special for $290.00 per 30lb cylinder.

How about you put some pics up showing how your install looks? I may be interested in finishing the job up, but if it looks rough I would obviously want to make the install correct which may add up to more than you had budgeted. I'm licensed and insured with a lot of years of experience, but I'm not available all of the time as this is basicly a hobby now.

                        I pay around that.

If you have a new outside unit, don't worry about those small lines I was referring to. They are attached to the txv on the outside unit provided it's a heat pump and it sounds like that's what you have. you also may have a wireng problem with the 2 different brands units being heat pumps. Is the inside unit a Goodman also?

my last bottle of R-22 bought last week was 325+tax. it went up this week.

                          At 25$ a lb I am making 750 a bottle gross --- I'm making $400 a bottle

Outside unit is the one that came with the house. It is an Amana (goodman) and the inside unit is a goodman. The outside unit is a heat pump.

I will post photos of the install, we're not a bunch of idiot monkies, we did it right. I just can't go any further because it requires a professional.

There aren't any "problems to inherit", but thanks for inferring we just threw it up there on some cinder blocks

So you've tested the line set and condenser for leaks? That's the kind of problem I'm talking about. I understand trying to do what you can on your own to save some cash, but like Turboskull posted you'll end up spending just as much in the end.

Good luck with it all, you might look at changing the dryer while your at it or add one if there is none.

Your spelling of monkeys doesn't instill confidence in the rest of your statement. (lol I had to bust your chops some, this is DFWmustangs after all)
