Ouch. Would try and get that changed to Owens Corning, GAF, or Certainteed.

Certainteed has the most "POP" in terms of color variation, and generally makes a gorgeous roof. Act really pissed off that he was going to put that crap on your house and get him to throw in Z-Ridge to make up for it...

And he went with that brand because it was the absolute cheapest that he could find. Thus maximizing profit. As a rule, if you are having a house built, everything in/on it is going to be the cheapest available. Unless we are talking a spec house.

Your house, and he wouldn't let you select color? Damn. Who is the builder?

He let us change but they are roofing in a few days and he hadn't asked what color. Today he said they use estate gray on all the houses. The plumber missed 3 drops by over 18" and is going to have to jackhammer the slab.

Is that the same as a 'high profile ridge'?

Mike have you seen this? You might rethink certainteed.. Just saying OC and GAF do not have any real complaints. You might rethink and go with tamko. If you want to see them in person I can send you pics of my rent house.
Lawsuits have been filed against CertainTeed Corporation, alleging the company manufactured and sold defective roofing shingles. The lawsuits allege CertainTeed is guilty of breach of warranty, negligence, breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation because the shingles are deteriorating much sooner than they should be.

Z ridge I believe is the same. It looks great on the triangle newer homes. My grandpa has it on his house.

I quoted the part above because I never really understood why it is considered fraud to work it out so that you don't have to pay a deductible? Is it because they assume that the contractor is overcharging the ins co?

Anyway, I have 2 other questions. How far out do you cover? My coworker, who I believe lives in Quinlan, just had his roof redone. He said they didn't replace the decking and now the is sagging between the rafters, which looks bad. Is there a way to reinforce that from underneath with 2x4's or something? Is that something you would be interested in?

I also have a question about my own roof. I have a metal roof and added on in the last year. Where the new section meets the old, I am getting a leak during a heavy rain. I've gotten up there multiple times and cannot tell exactly where it is leaking. Is there a a good rubber seal or something else that I can brush on along the valley that would seal it up?
Depends on how bad the deck is sagging on what you can do. Most likely it was sagging before and now they are paying attention because its a new roof. Most the time if its just a few spots you can just replace the bad decking if its the entire roof you can't do much but reroof the entire house and replace the decking.

As for your house you will need someone that specializes in metal roofing and has a metal shop to fix a metal roof. Depends on what type of metal you have depends on what can be done. I can't really tell you what to do without looking at it. In my experience pooky doesn't work and 9 out of 10 times makes leaks worse. If a metal roof is done right it will not leak.

I have heard nothing about that but most of that will go to rebuilding homes not roofs. I have a picture in my phone of hail at a house in forney that is bigger than my fist. Done some metal work for the guy before so its nice when they call you with a 150 sq of standing seam to do. Love those jobs. Should post pictures of the 198k reroof and gutters I did on a house in highland park. Real slate with copper everything.

                      • You can talk to your neighbor about this issue. They will help you out or if you can contact that roofing contractor then contact him to improve it.

                        • If anyone is looking to get their roof done, mike and his guys knocked mine out on Monday and did a great job. He answered all my dumb questions and while we were originally wanting to wait a few months, his price was too good to pass up.

Did your insurance not cover it?

                              Excellent advice, spammer!

Just an update, these clowns still have their signs in my next door neighbors yard and the yard of a house one street over and zero work has been performed.

Very typical after a big storm like that, with so much damage. There are only so many roofing crews to go around.

A neighbor of mine has had a sign in his yard since the storm last spring, and they are just now putting on his new roof. Granted, that's beyond normal circumstances (rent house), but it's not uncommon at all to have to wait 2 months after a bad storm like that.
