dryer issue

clothes dryer is stopping in mid cycle. it's an electric dryer and it is heating but have to restart it after about 10 or 15 mins. what could be causing this? where do I start?

Clogged vent will cause the thermal fuse to overheat and shut the machine down. Also check the blower motor and make sure the wheel isn's spinning on the shaft. What model is it?

and by clogged you mean with lint, correct? it's an old Whirlpool. do you need a model #? I'd have to get that for you tomorrow as I have one leg in the bed already.

Yep, probably clogged lint in the exhaust port or in the tubing somewhere.

Also see if the tubing is excessively kinked.

If not that then JW is right. Could be a fuse and they are generally very easy to replace.

Yeah, I think it was lint. Pulled the back panel off and gave it a good cleaning. Used it last night and all.seemed well.

You need to clean out your discharge too, the one venting the dryer to the outside of your house, it can get clogged and start a fire. The easiest way to do it is to move the dryer and hook a leaf blower onto the inlet and blast away. You'll have lint all over your yard but it works.

If you use dryer sheets, clean the lint trap on the dryer. Put in the sink & scrub with a nylon brush & some dawn soap. Seems as 'tho the chemicals in the sheets build up & slow down the flow of air thru the screen. If you want to check, take the screen, run some water thru it & see how quickly it flows thru.

well, today the problem resurfaced. must be the thermal switch because I cleaned everything in there pretty well. well, not the discharge(vent) tube. I'll have to get to that tomorrow. sure am glad a "U Fix It" is only a few minutes away in case it is the thermal switch.

Mine blew the 10 dollar thermal fuse in the back of the dryer. Easy as heck to replace and after I cleaned out the front and rear of the vent area my clothes actually dry faster. LOL
