  • Gonna tear up ma'yard

Its horrible, so im going to rent a tiller from HD this weekend to hopefully start over. Besides looking out for the sprinklers, is there anything else i should know about this process? I wanted to tear it up to lay some new sod down. Any tips or suggestions?

This. It's a fuck load of work. I did this 2 years ago. Had a guy come in with a sod cutter, cut out my St. Augustine. Tilled about 4 times, spread it around, leveled everything off, then spread Bermuda seed. It's a lot more work than you think it is. It took me probably 100 hours to complete.

Depends on what is growing currently, and what you want to plant. I'd kill it all off first, rake it up, then till/level and lay sod.

Reason being, if you have St Augistine now, till it up and lay bermuda over it, the St Augistine will probably grow back and eventually take over.

TxStang1, I like taking care of St Augustine better than bermuda, but IMO bermuda is nicer to walk on barefoot! Well, if it is growing good, and is thick.

you can kill st.aug. out of bermuda, but not the other way around......i'm sure you know this , just stating it for anyone who might not think of it

True, it is a broadleaf grass and pretty much any fertilizer/weed killer for bermuda will fuck St Augistine up. Just didn't really think about it!

You've got that backwards. I HATE St Augustine. I like a short, thick yard of Bermuda

Whatever, just seems extreme to me. I like my st. auggy, you obviously like your bermuda.

I wouldnt mind having a chipping green of short cut burmuda though.
