  • garage door will not go down unless you hold the button

when the garage door is shut it will open fine when the button is pressed. if you try to press the button to close it, it goes a few inches then stops. then goes back up. if you hold the button without letting it go it will go all the way down. if you let your finger off the button before it is all the way closed it will instantly stop, then go back up

    any things to look for?

It may be the sensor thinking it is hitting something, try the adjustment a little, or see if the wheels need to be lubed maybe?

This. Be sure the beam is lined up (it should have a small green light on it that indicates this). There are also "limit switches" that increase or decrease the opener force.

Hold the wall button down, if it goes down its the sensors.

              It's one of the sensors.

Check the wire connections, if they aren't tight it will do that.

Should be an indicator light on the sides saying the beam is working, if its dark, they are detecting an obstruction and shutting the door off.

This or the force needs to be increased...wheels may be getting stuck and the motor doesnt have enough power to overcome this and it thinks it's hitting something so it goes back up. Most of the openers have a knob you can turn to increase the force the motor uses to close the door.

One of your light beams is out of alignment, burned out, or is blocked by something. (It could simply be that you used a rake, put it by the sensor and now it blocks it).
