  • To go Zero turn or tractor

I am looking for justification to spend the extra coin on a zero turn over a standard tractor. Right now the cost difference appears to be a little under double the cost for the zero.

I have 1.4+/- acres to mow.

Also does anyone have experience with any of the Husqvarna products? They use a Kohler motor for the most part and have a 3 year warranty. Whereas the JD stuff we are looking at are B&S motors and carry only a 2 year warranty.

What I really want is this guy.

    Or this one from Husqvarna
Whether you own a home or a commercial fleet, you know quality matters when it comes to a riding mower. At Husqvarna, we work tirelessly to deliver the best zero-turn lawn mower lineup to our customers.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

main things too look for are mainly ease of maintenance for me, also deck metal thickness, belts, clutch access, these are things i have to regularly change but we do mow 100 places weekly, i have a jd, and its been fine, i have kohler and bs engines on different units,.....just have to adjust valves occasionally, again because of the hours we put on them.......if this is just for the home lawn i'd probalby just go with the cheapest.

The JohnDeere products at the big box stores are not the same ones you can buy at a JD dealer. The consumer models are not even close to the quality of the commercial models.
Kubota mowers will last damn near forever. More $ up front but worth it. I bought one 16 years ago and have put on 2 sets of blades,4 tires, and it needs a seat. Hell I can remember changing the oil in it just 3 times. It fired up this afternoon as quick as it did 16 years ago. My neighbor has been through 3 Craftsman mowers since I bought mine.

YES a zero turn is worth every penny and then some.

I had a craftsman tractor with a 22hp twin briggs. I used it for seven years on two acres. Sold it to a buddy when I moved and he has used it on 1 acre for the last 2 years. 9 years and still running. No problems other than belts and tires.

I have a CC ZTR and have not used it heavily to be honest but I got it cheap from the prior owner.

One thing to consider, do you ONLY want to mow with it? My research and it's been sort of proven with the front popping up on some hills is that it's not that great (or not possible at all) to pull stuff with it. I think you'd be able to pull an aerator or spreader with it, but anything past that is iffy. Also, considering it's purpose - you'd have to be careful when turning pulling those.

If I had to do again, I would just spent the money on a tractor since I may end up with one anyway.

I spoke to jd and the 425 and 225 at big box stores are the same as direct from jd.

Picking up one of the two tomorrow. I need to scalp the shit out of the yard before truegreen shows up on Tuesday.

Call the guys at a jd dealer like Ag Power. I think its 972-524-3000 I was told that the new jd zero turns are green scags.

Mower was delivered at 12:45 and I was mowing by 1:30. I have never driven a zero turn and it is going to take some practice to get use to it. Very touchy, hard to keep in a straight line but I just need to adjust the "handle all the way forward screws".

I wished it would cut LOWER. It is on the bottom setting but it would be nice to have a scalp setting. Maybe something else I can adjust.

It is fast as hell and at speed minor differences in the left/right throttle makes a big difference in tracking.

I only had time to cut the side of my house. Tomorrow is the full test.
