its alittle late, but here is the easiest and safest way to get your lawns where you want, regardless of type , trees in lawn, ect....
you can either put out a 0-0-7 lesco pre-m for pre emergence weed control and when the weather is warm enough just spot spray your weeds,
you can get this at home depot
there are other products you can get , just read the label first
anything with pendamethalin, pendelum, barricade are pre emergence and are safe to use on st. aug., bermuda, zoysia, and under trees ect....very safe
anything with atrazine should not be used under trees as it has pre and post emergence activity and can be harmful
i saw a scotts product that was a 30-4-8 (or close) with pendemathlin at home depot also, which is safe to use as well, it just has the fert. with it
