The most heavily recommended "weed and feed" fertilizers contain atrazine, a toxic chemical herbicide that is quite effective killing your trees and shrubs.

    Yes or no?
Most lawn furtilizers has time release that can bee too fast for trees. Too much fertilizer too quickly makes "toxic salt" levels to the root system.

I'm no expert, but its easy to read and ask experts questions.

Alright then. I guess I have read and recieved bad info when asking about my lawn.

Honestly, I'm not trying to argue the point with you. I was just trying to provide good info for people before they loose thier trees like I came close to. Once with weed and feed when I lost all my bushes 12/13 years ago, and even more reciently on my present lawn where my trees became week and not producing folage like the were. I have saint agustine grass and 30 oak trees.

Then help me out. I have a sandy soil. Not all sand of course, but sandy dirt if you will. Yes I could use some pruning and I fight the clovers every year. Because of the amount of trees, I sparingly use weed killer. Very little areas that I can use it on. Question for you is, what by brand and specific type of furt should I use and how often? Or is it a inspection on soil 1st?

My yard has been slipping and slipping due to lack of attention and my cheap wife not watering when it needed it the most. I am to blame though because I was out of country and relied on a yard guy to cut and keep it fertilized. My prize for 3 years with him is a shitty yard with tons of weeds.

Oh, and have you ever pushed a spreader over 1.4 acres? It is a bitch.
I had trugreen for a few months. They aren't bad. But i canceled just cause i could do all this shit myself. I cancelled in September of 2011 i think and they still call me every month telling me they can offer cheaper prices.

I would do that if i were you, just cancel and they'll call back a week later giving you better prices.

heh, got a similar sized yard and am using a push spreader. C'mon, it ain't that bad.

Only complaint I have is having to fill it so often overall.

Amen to that brother. I just spread 200 lbs of pre-emergent a few mins ago on our acre lot and my plantar fasciitis is kicking in.

On some of the fertilizer bags it says to not fertilize in the drip line of the trees.
