Any have any experiences with Smoke Restoration companies?

I was awoke last night about 3am to the smell of smoke. I couldn't find anything initially until I opened the attic door in the garage to find the attic full of white smoke- no visible flames. I immediately called 911 while waking the kids and getting the dogs to clear out the back door.

As I was in the back yard waiting on AFD I saw smoke coming from the front yard. I ran around there and found the source- bags of leaves stacked to close to a landscape light. All the bags of the leaves (8) were from this weekend when my daughter and I raked leaves together. I stack them against the house before taking them to the curb on trash day so they don't sit there for a few days. I knew the light was there (in ground glass covered can) but just forgot to check to make sure the bags were clear of it. The lights are on a timer so it heated it enough to ignite over the 6 hr window they run on. All 8 bags and a small tree and shrubs were directly under a soffit vent which is where all the smoke entered the attic.

Needless to say my house smells like a grass fire and is really inhabitable for the most part. Kids are staying at grandparents until I get some quotes on restoration.

We are very very fortunate as the flames did not get high enough to reach the soffits or a bay window about 10 feet away or it would be a different story. Brick is charred, irrigation melted, shrubs and small tree dead, and some severe smoke damage

Just wanted to know the good or bad about anyone's experiences with these types of companies like Servpro,Dalworth....

I don't have direct input. But this maybe where you're better off posting on city-data or something similar. A lot of those folks seem to have various experiences.

If it were carpet/tile damage only - I'd know a guy that would do a good job for ya. All that other stuff, I'm out of ideas. Easy mistake to make there - can't take it to curb cause of HOA and then an oopsy.

Thanks- I don't have an HOA but the reason I don't leave on the curb is usually some asshat will come by and run em down or slice the bags open and then I have to pick them all up again.

There are companies out there that do smoke and fire restoration, when I was a kid anin high school, my dad had a company doing it. Smoke is acidic, so all of your clothes and furniture will have the smell and will need to be ozoned. Its been years since I was in that industry, so I can't say anything good or bad about the companies that are out there. We contracted the contents to serve pro, and with good luck. They are generally franchized, so bad reviews may not be applicable for your area.

That sucks, man. I knew we lived in the same area, but didn't realize you were that close. I saw the damage this morning. Glad it didn't end up much worse and you guys got out ok. Our local Dalworth franchise has always been professional and done a good job for us. Maybe the same franchise does the restoration side as well. Good luck.
