Any have any experiences with Smoke Restoration companies?
I was awoke last night about 3am to the smell of smoke. I couldn't find anything initially until I opened the attic door in the garage to find the attic full of white smoke- no visible flames. I immediately called 911 while waking the kids and getting the dogs to clear out the back door.
As I was in the back yard waiting on AFD I saw smoke coming from the front yard. I ran around there and found the source- bags of leaves stacked to close to a landscape light. All the bags of the leaves (8) were from this weekend when my daughter and I raked leaves together. I stack them against the house before taking them to the curb on trash day so they don't sit there for a few days. I knew the light was there (in ground glass covered can) but just forgot to check to make sure the bags were clear of it. The lights are on a timer so it heated it enough to ignite over the 6 hr window they run on. All 8 bags and a small tree and shrubs were directly under a soffit vent which is where all the smoke entered the attic.
Needless to say my house smells like a grass fire and is really inhabitable for the most part. Kids are staying at grandparents until I get some quotes on restoration.
We are very very fortunate as the flames did not get high enough to reach the soffits or a bay window about 10 feet away or it would be a different story. Brick is charred, irrigation melted, shrubs and small tree dead, and some severe smoke damage
Just wanted to know the good or bad about anyone's experiences with these types of companies like Servpro,Dalworth....
