Anyone here do residential security or been through this recently?
Our new house is "pre-wired" with magnetic window and door switches, as well as power/comm feeds for a single control panel by the door to the garage. Smoke Alarms are not wired into the system, unfortunately. It looks like there are plenty of systems available, but primarily looking at Honeywell and DSC.
Here's the part I'm struggling with - I don't have a landline phone or VOIP. I'm looking at either an IP-based or GSM-based (cell phone) notification setup. I've got ATT Uverse and the fiber from the street comes into a box on the outside of the house. Two seconds with a pair or wire cutters could completely disable the internet connection, so I'm leaning toward the cell as either the primary or a backup.
Any words of wisdom?
