Fertilizing Lawn

Seems like Winter is completely gone and i've personally never fertilized my lawn before.

Trugreen use to come out and do my lawn but i stop using them back in August.

I dont know what type of grass i have in the front yard since all of it is yellow. (I'll post a picture later of my green backyard grass)

I've just been reading this site so far:

But i know we have someone here on this board who does this professionally for golf courses right ?

I'm not counting on winter being over. I'll start more like the end of February - although I'm no expert on these things either.

you can go ahead and put out a pre emergence for weeds, but i'd hold off on the fert for alittle while, until night temps are consistantly in the 60's, its warm enough to grow weeds now but not quite there for the grass to really move

Did i do this in the right order?

- put the pre emergence down Feb 25th

- mowed the lawn and sprayed it with some weed killer on March 2nd

- watered it on March 4th

What should i do now till April when i will put down the fertilizer?

Sounds like you're on track to me. Don't forget to reapply the pre emergent 90 days from your first app.

If I remember correctly, now is the time to do your overseeding if that is on your to do list. From the sounds of it (yellow grass in January) you need a lot of help.

if you didnt put out the max the first time, there are maximum limits on the label

I'm a noob at lawn crap. My backyard is a GD jungle and my front is slightly better with some grass showing. I'm more concerned with my front since that is what the HOA has been hounding me about.
How the FUCK do I kill these weeds?! I can't afford a service nor can I use expensive shit. I'm very irritated right now and was tempted to nuke my lawn back to dead stuff. Please help.

The only thing that's worked 100% on the cheap for us, is picking them damned things one by one. Be interested if anyone has any better ideas.

Ortho weed b gone works good to help rid of the weeds but not the grass.

You've waited so late that the weeds have taken over and are in full force. I would scalp the shit out of your yard for starters, then put down a weed and feed and work on maintaining it from that point. There are other things that you can do, but that is probably going to be the best way to get it under control. That's also the way I did mine last year Spring when we bought our house and it worked great. The previous owners did nothing but mow this place and couldn't have done any weed control and preventative maintenance. It's taken almost a year, but all the new grass seed that I put out has almost all started growing is now choking out what is left of the weeds after all our manual pulling and weed killer products. Always have to do the spot pulling of weeds, and use the weed and feed, but that's always going to be a part of keeping it under control.

Just keep mowing it - come May once we get those 75* plus nights the St Augustine will out grow and choke out the weeds. I don't waste any money on that crap to make my yard look good for a month or two.

thats why your lawn only looks good for a month or two, mine look good now and will until november, 9 months of greens grass

I just scalp and put down weed n feed and my weeds are almost gone. back yard needs a second application but it's on the way. I have Bermuda though.
