From what I remember, the nec now requires all receptacles in the garage to be gfci protected.
That may be why my garage only has the one wall receptacle, cheap bastards ! (Ofcourse it was built in 2001, so it may have been before they changed those regs.) That's good to know that way I can go ahead and put gfci outlets in.
I installed a bunch of outlets in the garage year before last and was told as long as the first plug in the chain was a GFCI it was good.
yep, they're "gfci protected"...they can be protected via a gfci breaker or gfci receptacle. you can add standard receptacles from the load side of a gfci receptacle, and those receptacles are gfci protected.
Like previously stated the cleanest way is to come down the header and use a pop in box I've done 100s of additional circuits this way. Looks like it was built that way when I'm done. And yes you only need one gfci as long as everything else is fed via the load side of it. Don't think that just cause its 6' away means its easy. I could have it done my way in half the time it would take you to do it any other
