  • Wood splitter needed

Does anyone have a hydraulic wood splitter that they would be willing to let me borrow for a day? I have about a cord of rounds that I want to split to help with the seasoning and am hoping to save my back from throwing the splitting maul around all day.

It doesn't have to be today but hopefully within the next couple of weeks. One of the manual bottle jack drive ones would be cool too but gas or electric would obviously be preferable.

I would be more than happy to buy a case of beer or a handle of liquor or something as payment.

If you come up empty handed, try the Fox Rental that's close to your place. Renting one for a couple of hours may be cheaper than you think.

Yeah, I thought about that but have been too lazy to pick up the phone to get prices.

Use google voice with your android...just click the phone number and it'll call you. If you can't do that, now THAT is lazy. lol

I've been wanting to pick one up for awhile now, but somewhat as a toy. The fireplace opening we have is very generous, and I really don't "need" to halve or quarter most trees I cut unless the trunk is over 2' in circumference. The downed trees that I've been finding have all been smaller than that and that has only made it easier to extend my procrastination on getting the splitter.

If you have to rent one, try HomeDepot. I rented it a few times there. Ran me $80 for 4 hours. I was able to split quite a bit in that time. I believe they charge around $120 for the day.

EDIT...I can take a picture of the piles I split in those 4 hours when I get home. I haven't stacked them yet.

Little advice to split pretty quick is to have all your logs together in front of splitter(do that before you get splitter) so all you have to do is turn and grab. Leave plenty of space to left and right to start your pile.

I didn't say it was cheap. I plan on saving up to buy one myself. Either way you gonna spend little $ if you can't borrow one.

Or I'll just have to suck it up, buy a wedge, and hand split it. If it'll cost that much to rent I'm out. I have more time and energy than extra cash after the holidays.

How do you know if you could have someone split you $120 worth of wood or buy $120 worth when he never indicated how much wood he actually had to be able to compare? I don't see a picture anywhere nor any terms defining cord, rick, or fractions of them. I'll bet you a cord of wood that you can't buy a cord of good seasoned wood for $120, let alone a cord for $120 already split. Even if it's a mixed cord I'd have a hard time believing you could get it for $120 and not have a bunch of trash and kindling in there.

I saw some pretty good stuff in east Texas this weekend for around that price.

Hell I'll buy it all day long at $120 per cord if it's seasoned oak without the filler.

He's probably just trying to prevent an ER visit.
