  • Water Restrictions 2012

Seeing the sod thread reminded me to make a thread about next year. I was at a meeting the other day and was told this information by a city official. This applies to cities fed by the NTMWD system (http://www.ntmwd.com/) which includes Frisco.

Here's the way the city official explained it. Unless we get a ton of rain this winter and spring, the plan is to move to stage 4 by July 2012 at the latest (possibly as early as March). Currently we're at stage 3 which means water once every 2 weeks. Stage 4 means no watering of lawns and landscaping. The meeting was for a bunch of builders, and they told them that you could not water new lawns -- even if you lay sod for the new house.

This is not good news for anyone that likes to keep the yard nice. If you plan on redoing your yard or spending a lot of money on making it nice for the spring/summer, you may want to monitor the water situation first. It's easy to drop several hundred dollars yourself on making the lawn nice, and potentially much more hiring a service. It would suck to do all that and then have the lawn die because you can't water. Consider this your heads up.

Set up a rain water capture system hooked to sprinklers, or a native lawn.

They are also going to prohibit any washing of cars, unless it is for "vision or emergency" reasons. So you will pretty much only be able to wash your windshield.

Glad I have a kickass well!

Are they going to have police stings set up at every single car wash to enforce? Didn't think so.

I also heard in Stage 4 they will limit or prohibit new pool installations, large landscape improvements, etc. Enforcement will be tough for some of this.

              We need rain, period.

I think were building a pure pipe line to somewhere around ft Davis to get our water in midland. We just had the driest year on record and it is only supposed to get worse!

                Sent from a bathroom.

                  Carwashes use reclaimed water.

Now the thread about shoplifting/DPD/$50 deal makes sense, cops will be in full force shutting down the criminal waterheads.

This could also be why my customers in the Oil and Gas industry express that they are snatching up water rights as fast as they can.

That's the funniest shit I have heard in awhile. You obviously have no clue about water utilities. There may be a few car wash facilities that are in close enough proximity to a reclaimed water line that they could use that resource, but I'd say around 95% of car wash facilities are tapped into the same potable water mains that connect to the residential water meter at your house.
