I'm a firm believer in that the fireplace should be the center point in the living area, but it also shouldn't become overly cluttered or misused. I really am not a fan of putting them above fireplaces, but then again I actually use a fireplace for it's intended use so my preference may not be as common as the next person.

I most definitely would not put it above the fireplace If your ever going to use the fireplace. Also think about the heat and your going to get the occasional smoke even if you have a blower

This. A TV should be eye level while seated.

I dont think we'll ever use the fireplace period.

After last night of rearranging the couches in different ways, we found it was best to not put it above the fireplace because our living room would look weird as hell and a big gap would be on one side of the room.

Now we just need to find a new table.. any recommended places ? Best Buy ? Ikea ?

            Our TV is 60" btw.

That depends. My wood fireplace is a brick lined firebox and a flue pipe. Nothing comes within a foot of any of its components. I installed my TV over the fireplace and built and in-wall cabinet on the side to hold all my components and an IR relay so they could still be reached by remote while hidden. I have a service hole (about a 1' square) behind a picture that I never patched. Last night I took my IR thermometer while there was a big fire going. I never got any measures over 85 degrees in the area or even the firebox itself. No chance of smoke leaking either.

I have had mine above the FP for 2.5 years now with no issues at all. Flat screens put out a lot of heat themselves so the heat is really not an issue. smoke may be if it gets bad but that would be very rare I would think. we burn at least a cord every year and no probs so far. hope this helps.

I have this one, love it, and cannot beat the price. My 61" Samsung fits on there with LOTS of extra room. Mine is the black/brown color.

i know right.. they gave me a good price on geeksquad coming to my house from the original price.

The only reason i wanted them to do it was that certain thing of them running the power in the wall.

I'll probably stop by bestbuy and get my refund on this.

I sure as hell would as they're not providing the service they claimed you were paying for.

There are a few electricians around the board that I have seen post before on threads like these that have done an outlet relocation or installing a new one behind the location of the new TV. Can't remember any of the user names to save my life though, which is par for the course.

I don't meant o hijack your thread but I noticed you have the same walls/ceilings that I do. The wall is beveled into the ceiling (pic 1) making it difficult to paint. How did you paint your walls in that area if you don't mind me asking?
