What is the next step to texture walls?

thanks guys, think ill see if i can rent the stuff and give it a try. What do you think is the best way to plug the holes? Just get a hole drill bit and cut out of a new sheet of sheetrock? and what do I do with the existing tape? just sand it down with sand paper?

as for the insulation, i dont recall, i had it done about 2-3 years ago. But I think it was pretty cheap. I wanna say 200 bucks or so?


now, im looking ahead... what about my floor? I was going to just stain it, but i have quite a few stains on the floor from oil, trash can spills, etc... i was told all this will show up and look like crap if I stain it. WHat are some other alternatives? We are thinking of making the garage into a playroom/tv room for the kids... so maybe just some cheap indoor/outdoor type carpet?

If you already have the drill bit to make the same size circle, then that's fine. Otherwise, just cut out a square over the circles(I typically cut to the width of the studs to give me something to screw down to), then cut out a piece of sheetrock to fit the squares on the walls, fill them in and then float it with mud, let it dry, sand, and texture over that. For the tape, just cut out the parts that look loose or raised and float with mud.

For the floor, I would think that outdoor type carpet would get musty smelling over time. I don't have any first hand experience with using that carpet but I've seen it used before with covered patios and such and it just doesn't look good. Have you tried to power wash your floor with a good cleaner? I cleaned my gameroom floor with a floor buffer, black scrubbing disc and water before I stained.

On filling the holes as is, cut a piece of 1x4 for each that is 2-3 inches longer than the hole is wide. Get it inside the wall, then secure it on each side with sheetrock screws, screw through the rock into the 1x4, overlapping on each side. This now gives you something to attach the new sheetrock plugs to, then mud it. To do it 'correctly' you would need to use tape, though that would be a royal pia...
