  • Sidewalk drain

Thinking of redoing the french drain that runs under a stone sidewalk and want to end up with a concrete sidewalk. Heres my idea

I could just set 2 or 3 3" pipes the lenth of the sidewalk to achieve this, anyone have any other ideas?

I'd need some pictures of the actual area you're talking about. I can't tell anything from what you posted.

People can post up ideas and such, but without the pictures - you won't get any details.

Not sure if you can tell by the picture but its one of the many things that needs fixed. I was thinking of some type of funnel setup in the front so water will travel to the creek behind the house and straighten the sidewalk out aswell

Are trying to get water to run under the sidewalk in the foreground or under the gravel pathway going back towards the gate? It looks like the low spot is towards the gate.

It would be helpful to know where your water issue is and then where you want it go.

Looks like a french drain is just needed or a buried landscape drain

Trying to redo the gravel walkway and have a way for water to run from the foreground thru the gate. Trying to accomplish something that requires little to no maintenance and better curb appeal.

I would build a french drain that is actually the walkway then. Its basically perforated pipe under the bed of gravel. Then you could lay some pieces of flagstone on top to give some appeal. Very cheap project overall just a lot of 'back' work

Something like this- this was an area in my back yard that collected water- water drains down through the rock and into the pipe runs about 10' out to the side- works great

It has the one run of perforated tubing under it but its not working very well. There is a lot of gravel and dirt runoff from the driveway which I think is hindering flow. Thats why I was thinking something smoother, and open incase it did get clogged I could power wash or hose it out.

Part of the problem is probably having that down spout just dumping right into the yard next to the walkway. If you redirect your downspout that might help, depending on the lay of the land and which way the landscaping is sloped around that side of the house.
Now the other problem appears that your walkway is matted down, compacted, thus not allowing water to be absorbed, or filtered, into the ground and down to where your french drain is. You said something about redo your "gravel walkway" but that doesn't even look like gravel to me, it looks dark like soil to me.

If you're going to be pouring a concrete sidewalk I would do a trench drain. See below....

The "gravel sidewalk" is somewhat the lowest area for the water to flow to the backyard. The sidewalk isn't gravel but larger rock that has grass growing thru it. I'm seeing putting that drain setup like what you posted, running it all the way from one side of the carport(far right of pic) to the other side of the sidewalk with a slope towards the sidewalk end and running either the flexable black tubing or the pvc stuff with holes thru the sidewalk.

The downspouts were going to be another post about installing the black tubing for drainage to run the water away from the foundation better (recommended length, how deep, proper method to terminate the ends)

You could just connect the downspout underground to the drain. It will take a bit of digging, but shouldn't take you more than 10 or 15 minutes with a spade shovel and you should be good to go on that part.
