  • Hard water deposits - best way to remove?

I can't pull up on the handle in the shower faucet (arrow below) to divert water to the shower head. It appears to have a buildup of calcium/lime deposits keeping it from being able to move.

I've already tried to spray CLR up there. That ain't gonna work.

    Got any advice? TIA

A really strong acid might help, or just might have replace it.

Danny, I think that just unscrews. If it does u can soak it in CLR or just replace. It's been a while since I had one of those apart.

Thanks man. Yes, it did unscrew. I was looking for a phillips or hex set screw, but the whole thing rotates. Doh.

I've got it soaking in vinegar and I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks guys.

          Advice: take baths instead.

          Any other brain busters?

That particular assembly should be fairly cheap and easy to replace - assuming you don't have a higher end one that is hard to find at Lowes/HD.

            I'm learning about faucets...

            1. Try to take them apart every couple of years and lubricate them.

            2. If it's hard to take apart due to seizing - just replace the damned thing

They both have good and bad, and some of the better ones are ridiculously expensive.

what if the pipes are still copper welded and the thing doesn't unscrew?

The spout will come off some how. It either unscrews or has a set screw. They are cheap, easier to just replace than clean
