paint peeps???

Doing some repainting around house. One of the exterior doors is painted with latex paint(blue). Wife comes home with a quarter can of Rustoleum Copper paint, which is oil based. I've used these on metal, never on wood. It's the "hammered" look kind. She tried to paint over the old paint which didn't go on correctly being latex is already on there. If I take door off and sand it all the way down, will this type of paint work?

I'd try a primer first instead of sanding it down. Just a quick search at homedepot.com came up with this:
