What did the materials cost and what was the rental cost of the machine itself? I am trying to plan with a neighbor/friend to split the cost of doing this in both our houses over the winter sometime soon.

Home Depot in Wylie, about 2 years ago. I'd doubt the costs changed very much. We went the standard blow in insulation as opposed to the recycled stuff.
Only caveat I need to add is we added insulation - it was not cleared out and then put in. I believe we had somewhere around 8-12 of those compacted bundles we put in.
edit: Apologies for being vague, just can't remember SPECIFICs. It was really in-expensive though for the added value though and did not take a bunch of time. (with 2 people)Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

Think we were aiming for around the same - maybe a little less. Like I said, it was awhile ago. I do know it should be a fair amount above minimum and we did notice some difference.
300 is not bad with 24 hour rental and all.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

You shouldn't have to pay for the rental at all. I know HD will give you the rental for 24 hours for free if you buy $150 or so in insulation. We did a budy's house a year or so ago that way.
I paid someone to do mine, and it was around $300 using the Oncor program. I will say, I didn't notice much of a difference in energy savings, or in house comfort. They used a lesser shredded cotton insulation instead of the good stuff. My buddy used the good stuff and noticed a savings and a big difference in comfort.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

My house had about 6" of insulation in the attic and last fall we added 6 more inches of spray in insulation to that. Had someone come out and do it, paid about $700 if I remember right. Yeah, we could have done it cheaper, but ever since we got it done, our electric bill has been an average of $100 less a month so it still paid for itself in less than a year.Annoying people, one post at a time!
