  • If you had a drainage problem who would you contact?

I've got a problem and my carport is concrete and lower than my gravel driveway. When it rains the carport ends up full of water because the driveway runs down to it. I've put in a drain at the edge of the carport and ran a french drain to the backyard which runs to a creek. It works but ends up full of dirt from the driveway.

As I'm typing this I realize concrete would solve the problem. Driveway is huge and concrete is $$$ anyone had one done in sections?

Had a similar problem and installed a drainage box with a sump pump. Dug a hole to the street to run the drainage line, every time it rained a lot, the water drains to the box, the pump gets rid of it! Total cost was like $250 or so, not too much work to install it.

There are box es you can drive over, so if it is in a traffic area, no worries!

Can't find a good pic of one, but here is what the top of it looks like, once buried. Just put it in th elow spot, gravity does the rest.

You could cut a drainage trench into the the edge of your driveway, and run a drainage line down to the creek.

I found out from a neighbor the previous owner had a pump he sat in the lowest spot of the carport and pumped it down. I'd rather find a permanant solution to this problem.

Can you lower the area where you have the french drain drawn by cutting the dirt down in that area and draining it the the creek.

Can you post a picture of the drain you installed, the driveway leading to the drain, and the drain to where ever it discharges. If I see that I could probably give you some good, cheap ideas to try.

From what you're describing it sounds like you didn't use any filter fabric on your french drain. That would be my first suggestion in order to keep the soil out of your drain and keep it flowing smoothly to daylight. If the drain itself is not collecting enough of the water then you will have to regrade and slope the surrounding areas so that gravity will make the water flow to your drain, or where ever you want it to go, or you will have to find and alternative route to keep the water from entering the carport altogether, again with either regrading or with some sort of small/short berm like barrier that will still allow you to drive over it without issue.

Like above filter fabric. What did you do when you did the french drain. Maybe adding a cleanout to the french will help clean the mudd/dirt out.
